Current Trend of Technical Writing


Dear friends with reference to my last post, today am going to discuss about the Current Trend of Technical Writing.

There are many more best practices are initiated in the technical writing with respect to the various industries standards. But I will explain the commonly used trends across the industries.

1. Structure Documents

The foremost trend in the technical writing industries is to move to structure documents.
There documents use some method of coding or marked up language to maintain the consistency of structure through the document.
Structure documents have many benefit like, reuse of content, single sourcing and publishing in multi channel.
Also it is cost and time effective compare to unstructured 
 documents.

2. Single Source Publishing

Single sourcing became most popularity across the technical publication industries.
Its allow the same contents to be reused in multiple technical documents.
It leads to reduce time and cost for the publisher.

3. Mobile Device Comparability

Today users wants that the content to be available them any time and any place.
To make the content handy available in any time and any where, the content should be comparability for smart phones.

 4. Topic Based Writing

Topic based writing is called module base writing and creating the data module for each topic.
Many industries used different standards for this module base writing. Like in Aerospace, it is S1000D and in the other industry it is DITA. I will explain the both standards in my future posts.
Users will no longer have to hunt through conceptual information to find the “how to”. And forget wading through customizing a feature when what they really want is command descriptions.
By writing in topic types, you meet your users’ requirements, matching the way you write with the type of information they’re looking for. Users get the visual cues they need to identify the type of information.

5.Online Publishing

Now a days most of the users want to refer the most recent documents to get the accurate information.
To provide the most recent documents across the glob, online publishing is the solution.
