How to Write a Self Appraisal Effectively
As we all know that it is the time of year again. I am not telling about your summer vacation. I am telling about the annual performance review.
As we prepared before holiday travel and attending parties, similar way we need to think and plan before completing the Self Appraisal.
Why self-appraisal is so important
It is an opportunity for employees to self-reflect and consider what their strengths and weaknesses.
You may be under the impression that your manager remembered all the great accomplishments and successes you had throughout the year.
However, it is also your responsibility to bring all your successes to your manger's notice.
For managers, self-assessments offer several benefits. They illuminate how the employee sees themselves in the context of the team and the organisation at large. It also highlights any disagreements between the manager and the employee.
The self-assessment is an opportunity for feedback to managers about what motivates and what create hindrance for an employee to do their best work.
Writing a self-assessment is not easy task. Analyzing oneself can be immensely difficult, especially when that analysis is submitted to a supervisor for review.
There are few tips will help you learn how to write a self-assessment
Steps to complete your self-appraisal
1. Be Proud Yourself:
The most important step of the self-evaluation is, highlight your accomplishments and success those you had achieved. Point out the specific tasks and projects that highlight your best work. When describing those accomplishments, you should emphasise the impact of those achievements on the business and value of the company.
2. Be honest:
Be honest. Don't embellish your accomplishments. Think hard about how you choose your ratings for yourself. Your manager will likely want you to support your ratings so be prepared to provide examples of your successes (why you deserve that high rating) and examples of your not-so-great performance (why you may deserve a weaker rating).
3. Continuously strive for growth:
It's important during self-assessments to never stagnate; humans are constantly adapting, learning and changing. Whether you've had a great year or fallen short of your own expectations, it's important to remain committed to improving and educating yourself. Taking a moment to list your goals and objectives for the coming year during a self-assessment demonstrates that you are not content to settle.
4. Track your achievements.
When you discuss on your accomplishments in your self-assessment, provide hard data to your manager what you've done throughout the year.
Employees and managers generally know how you have performed, but keeping profs always a strength for your self-assessment.
5. Be professional:
You should always be professional when writing self-assessments. This means not bashing the boss for poor leadership skills or criticising co-workers for making their lives more difficult.
Be prepare for performance review discussion
After you have submitted your Self-Appraisal, discuss with your manger and book your calendar for final discussion.
