How to Say NO to Your Boss Respectfully

Dear friends this post is most critical and import the for those who are working in corporate and MNC. This post is based on my personal experiences and feelings. This post is regarding on your boss at your office.

If your boss asked you, can you do this work ? then you will give the answer, YES or NO
You all know that due to any reason if you say NO to your boss, then it will be treated that you have done a big crime. Then you will be pushed in to the controversy.

If you say YES to escape from the controversy then you need to burn your blood to do that.
Some times if could not do that work on time, then you will be in the edge of the sword.

There is a one more smart answer, (give me sometime, will come back), many of us think that if we give this answer, then we will safe. But now a days this trend also got changed.

If you answered like, (give me sometime, will come back), it seems that few bosses asked immediately, did you learn this from corporate trainer?  So sometimes this answer also will not help you.

Study says only 10% bosses accept the NO with out any controversy.
Also study says 85% of employees leaving the company due to the boss.

Companies are introducing many soft skill and motivational training's to improve the relation of employee and boss. But it will change when we change our attitude and our mind set.

In today’s digital world, it is very difficult say I am disagreeing with your thoughts. It’s really matter, how you tell to you boss that you are disagreed. Positively Disagree is a helpful technique that help you to disagree with your boss without damaging the relationship.
Here are Steps to positively Disagree:

Listen

Avoid harsh people off. Do not tell him that they are wrong. Hear him out first.

Acknowledge his opinion by saying something like

I hear what you are saying
I understood your points
I did not think about it that way
That is an exciting view
I can get why you see it that way
I realize why you say that
I get where you are coming from
Be aware of your body language. Your words need to be connected with your actions. If you move your eyes while acknowledging, he will not believe that you are listening him.

Silence briefly. Use silence effectively

Do not start out with word “but, however, still”. These harmful filler words will negate the fact that you are trying to hear him out. He often put people on the self-justifying and break down the communication.

State your opinions by starting out with something like

In my knowledge, I…
My thoughtful is different. I …
Have you considered…
What about…
The literature/evidence says…
Because of …, I think…
Be sure to include indication, truths, samples, personal experience and data to verify your viewpoint.
By using the Positive Disagree technique, you preserve and strengthen the relationship by showing to your Boss that you heard him and respect him even when you disagree.

These techniques, you can apply  to only smart bosses, but there are some traditional bosses, for them these techniques may not be worked out. You need to apply some local tricks for them.

Hope you like this post. This topic is never ending story. I can not cover in one topic. I will make next series later.
